Name: Debu Majumdar, Night Jasmine Tree - IN PERSON
    Date: March 31, 2022
    Time: 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM PDT
    Event Description:
Night Jasmine Tree is the story of an Indian immigrant's move to the U.S. because caste conflicts—a story of love, forgiveness, and rise to the call of his innate heart. His actions become a cathartic triumph of the human spirit—moving, realistic, and uplifting. Born in India, Debu Majumdar received a doctorate degree in physics from SUNY at Stony Brook. He maintained an interest in writing throughout and, after settling in the Rocky Mountain West, he began publishing stories and essays about life as he observed and experienced it. His first book, From the Ganges to the Snake River, a creative non-fiction, interweaves Indian culture with north-west American reality. His four children’s books (Viku and the Elephant series), set in village India, explore universal themes such as friendship, perseverance, preservation, and bullying. Sacred River: A Himalayan Journey, his first novel, written from a background of India’s ancient heritage describes a daring gold heist from a temple in the Himalayas with romance, history, and spirituality. Night Jasmine Tree, his second novel, is the hidden backstory of an Indian man’s immigration to the U.S.—a story of rebellion against conservative caste barriers, romance, sacrifice, loss, and final reconciliation that overcomes innate human obstacles.
